Trouble’s Exemplary (Larry)
“The Little Horse That Can Jump!”
Exemplary is our star stallion. Known as “Larry” here at Sunset
Mountain, he is a 30-inch tall 14-year old stallion who is a great
grandson of Rowdy and a grandson of Lucky Four Apache’s
Double-Take. Larry has been on the AMHA Honor Role list every
year since 2006. He has now won 9 Jumper World Championships
(2009 Youth 13 & over, 2009 Open, 2010 Amateur, 2010 Open,
2011 Youth 13 & over, 2012 Youth 13 & over, 2012 Amateur, 2014
Youth 13 & over, 2015 Open) and 8 Jumper Reserve World
Championships (2007 Open, 2010 Youth 13 & over, 2011 Amateur,
2011 Open, 2012 Open, 2013 Open, 2016 Amateur, 2016 Open). He
has also won over 13 Regional Championships and over 250 local
show blue ribbons. He has cleared a record 5 44-inch jumps in a
single competition.
Larry is available for stud service. Frozen semen is also available.
Larry is passing on a “jumper gene” to his offspring. All of his
babies love to jump. Several of his foals are also working as therapy
horses. He has a mild temperament and he passes it on.
Larry is registered both in AMHA and AMHR, but only competes in
AMHA. His foals can be registered in both registries.

After 2007 when Larry won his first Reserve World Championship
we changed the logo of Sunset Mountain Miniatures to honor him.
The photo used to model it was taken during the AMHA World
Show in 2005, the first year that Larry competed at the AMHA
World Show. In the picture the handler is our daughter, Rebekah.
Rebekah showed Larry for many years and appears in many of his
photos. Rebekah won a World Championship with Larry in 2010.
Here is Larry “checking to make sure he is flying right....”. This
picture was taken during the 2011 Youth (13 & over) World
Championship. The picture was taken by our son, Michael Crider.
Anna Barnes is leading Larry over the jumps. Larry went 4 inches
higher later in this class to win the world championship.
Larry had a great outing at the 2011 AMHA World Championship.
Here he is being handled by Brooke Glosser in the Open Jumper
class. Larry cleared some amazing 42 and 44 inch jumps in this
event. Due to one early mistake Larry did not take the
championship. But he was the only horse to jump a clean perfect
round in the last jump-off. Which was enough to give him the
Reserve World Championship. In 2011 Larry won one World
Championship (Youth 13 & over) and two Reserve World
Championships (Open and Amateur).
Larry is shown here with Anna Barnes, Daniel Crider, and Brooke
Glosser. And with his 3 2011 championship trophies.
Larry often travels with us to camps, churches, and community
events. He has been handled by children since he was a yearling. So
he does not mind being let over jumps by them. This thrills the
children, many whom have never touched a horse before in their
lives. To see more pictures of Larry working with children visit the
Picture Album. This picture was taken at a camp at the Cowgirl
Museum of Fort Worth in 2006.
In the August/September 2011 edition of the Miniature Horse
World Magazine Larry made the cover. The picture was taken at
the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. The top of the log is about 38
inches high. Larry had a lot of fun jumping over it. The picture was
taken by our son, Michael Crider.
Larry enjoys practice almost as much as competition. Here he is
practicing at Sunset Mountain. Larry’s practice is divided into
round pen practice and practice on a lead line on a jump course.
Larry has been jumping for so long that he knows instinctively in
the round pen to go over the jumps.
